A thread on Winter Solstice and my confusion with it.

Being raised culturally Christian but philosophically atheist, this time of year raises a lot of self reflection. Christmas is deeply entrenched in my family's celebration, but the celebrations are far removed from any religious themes. There is a tree, and gift giving, and feasting. But it's more about tradition than ritual.

Talked about the #moon today, with people that also like to talk about the moon : D that was nice.

Too overcast and stormy to actually see the moon right now, but I'm setting up moon rituals anyway.

Having some cozy time with a cuddly cat and wife on the couch, with a fake fireplace on the tv.

It's a bit gray and damp this morning, so here's a cheery daffodil for the #SpringEquinox

The miracle of creation
Is a quotidian wonder,
Happening every day,
In every home,
In every mind.
Each pen put to paper,
Each brush to canvas,
Each diaper changed,
And each dinner served
Breathes newness into being.
We create and are created
In the act of creating.
All our arguments in the end
Are circular.
From stardust we are born,
A heartbeat in the life
Of the universe.

Happy Solstice & Good Yule!

Shortest day and longest night,
The reign of darkness in its height:
The dark gives time to rest and heal,
Knowing that our fears are real.
The cold and quiet settle in
And hopes for the new sun begin.
As it has for countless years,
The wheel turns on and quells our fears.

Gratitude

When I quiet my mind
And begin to list
All the many things I am grateful for,
My heart slows a bit,
The furrow in my brow relaxes,
And I feel more myself.
Gratitude as a practice
Has given me a way out
Of the avalanche of complaints
That can sweep me off my feet.
Gratitude is a life jacket
Keeping my head above
The stormy waters of my life.

Updated my focus today...

The card is "tides" which the artist defines as "cycles, predictability, change"

Lots to think about, but it really felt like something shifted in the year this week, with the weather, the clocks going back. Cycles of ups and downs (and there's a lot of downs in the world currently) and the feeling of everything on repeat (so how can I stop the tape from wearing thin? And why is my metaphor stuck in the 1980s?)

As much as I hate the "#AtheoPagan" designation, I would much rather people just call themselves that than float around our #Pagan communities as crypto-atheists...

@rubah seems we have some things in common. Doesn't look like you are active, but I'd like to follow
