This article reflects on the significance of the affective turn for work in cultural studies and #queerstudies, paying particular attention to the distinction between #archivaltheory and #archivalpractice. It focuses on #queerarchives and especially the creative methods of artists in the #archives. It closes with a brief return to #Derrida’s #ArchiveFever by way of acknowledging its influence

Today there’ll be a small conference at the Winchester School of Art, titled “Looking after Archives” organised with the support of EU Cost program and the Toolkit of Care international project. There will be lectures and workshops by Olga Goriunova and Somaya Langley, and it’ll be attended by our students of the BSc in Creative Computing.

I’m looking forward to a workshop with Ethan Kleinberg, next week, exploring Archive Fever in the digital age. It’s a rare thing to have the chance to discuss and think about these things in such illustrious company.

If you’d like to join us on-or-off-line, you can find out a little more about it here: https://digitalscholarship.web.ox.ac.uk/event/archive-fever-mal-darchive

Archive Fever | Mal d'Archive

The #Kabakov piece reminded me that I read #Derrida's #ArchiveFever a half dozen years ago. Fortunately my blog #archive means I can remember what I thought!

Archive Fever

What I Think About When I Think About Reading

So. 1/3 birdsite migration done. I just got hold of the archive of one of three Twitter accounts I manage. Well over 6Gb of data. (Oh, and it includes all my deleted tweets and deleted DMs, too, ha ha, privacy, ha ha). The archives of the other two accounts are still waiting though, and from everything I'm reading about Eloncio's HR shenanigans, I don't even know if there's someone left in there processing these issues. Fingers crossed, but I'm not optimistic.

Moral of the story: request your Twitter data export *now*. You might still be able to get it.

Looking over the list of presenters at #saa2021 I see that there's an archivist named Casey Winkelman. I promise you, that's not me
