draft / xpost - apple watch being tied to iPhone is highly anti-competitive and apple should be ordered to enable apple watch to be able to be used by anyone, regardless of their phone choice.

"Buy an iPhone" is not an answer to "I cannot use Apple watch because I don't have an iPhone"

"Buy another watch" is not an answer either.

They make nice watches, but their phone operating system is missing a core feature of a secure operating system: multiple user profiles.

People should be able to choose the apple watch while choosing an operating system that has multiple user profiles, and iPhone lacks multiple user profiles.

"Then use Android, and get a different watch"

Ok I'll use a pixel phone, because they support multiple user profiles, a core feature of security/privacy, but why can't I, after 10 years of apple watch existing...why can't users of pixel phones buy an apple watch if they want. Either that, or at least bring multiple user profiles to iPhone.

People should be able to buy apple watch (or any watch) regardless of their phone choice.

I'm not a lawyer, so I'm not the person to craft an argument on this, but I would hope legal types could make legal arguments against apple requiring iPhone in order to use Apple watch.

"US sues Apple for illegal monopoly over smartphones / The Department of Justice claims Apple has maintained an illegal monopoly over the smartphone market by locking in customers and making experiences worse for rival products."

Good. Apple has stagnated and dragged their feet for years. Multiple user profiles has been missing from iOS for over a decade, a basic and important privacy and security feature of any operating system.

US sues Apple for illegal monopoly over smartphones

The US Department of Justice sued Apple over monopoly claims. The lawsuit has been in the works for years and could upend core parts of Appleโ€™s business.

The Verge

"Apple has illegally monopolized the software app market, with the DOJ suggesting that the company used its control over iOS to block innovative apps and cloud streaming services from the public. The suit also suggests that Apple has made it harder for Android messages to appear on iPhones, obstructed rival payment platforms and restricted how competing smartphones integrated with iOS devices.

"By stifling these technologies, and many others," the complaint reads, โ€œApple reinforces the moat around its smartphone monopoly not by making its products more attractive to users, but by discouraging innovation that threatens Appleโ€™s smartphone monopoly.""

Agreed. For example a highly innovative feature for privacy and security - multiple user profiles - is still missing from iOS after more than a decade.
