The #facebook algorithm is dangerous. I received an email for an old facebook account that I haven't used for years that used to be used just to post local community groups with functional information about public transport (road closures, route diversions, new timetables/fares etc, really riviting stuff - designed to be functional and practical - never engaged in discussions) So as someone who is interested in public transport but hasn't been around for a while they have decided to think I might want to join... (for context, I have never heard of Duston, it may be lovely, and I am not depressed or shown any interest in depression websites). #socialmedia #antiAlgorithm #algorithm

I watched an amazing video series on YouTube last night I feel it fits under the #digitalhygiene category. It is from a music channel called Digging The Greats, he started with a simple exparement. What would happen if he stopped streaming music and just used an iPod. I will not cover his thoughts, go watch the two videos on his channel. I am a tech focused person and some times I forget there are people who just want things to work. If you want to make a more Conscious choice when it comes to what you listen to or just want to got out from under the algorithm check out the android app synfonium. It is my go to music app. It can do it all, you want to manuly put music on your phone and play it. go for it! you want to store your current listening music in a cloud and stream it, it can play music from dropbox and google drive. do you have a navidrom of subsonic server it can link to it. the app is one you have to pay for but its one time. you then have one of the best android music players. You don't have to get another device to replicate what he is doing.

Another person's post this morning got me thinking about the strange phenomenon at Mastodon of much higher engagement but with much smaller friend counts. I currently have half the friends here than I did at Twitter; but in seven years on Twitter, I don't think a single tweet of mine ever got more than 10 likes, while in a month here I've had at least half a dozen posts boosted and liked close to 500 times.
