Visiting our friend Jack

A beautiful day here in New Jersey.

Parking at a familiar place, where someone special resides.

We saw them from afar and I called to them, “Jack! Jack!”

Jack is the old guy on the left. He’s been on these grounds at least 15 years. I’ve blogged about him before. I don’t know the names of the other horses, but when I called to Jack, they all came galloping towards us. The dark brown one really loved the attention and kept nuzzling us to pet him some more!

And then we hit the beach; so nice before the Memorial Day crowds hit next weekend!

“It was no sound they’d ever heard before. In the gray twilight those retchings seemed to echo like the calls of some rude provisional species loosed upon that waste. Something imperfect and malformed lodged in the heart of being. A thing smirking deep in the eyes of grace itself like a gorgon in an autumn pool.”

A tremendous writer, author and storyteller, truly a unique voice and creative in the american literary world, if not its best. Cormac McCarthy 1933-2023

“Ever dumb thing I ever done in my life there was a decision I made before that got me into it. It was never the dumb thing. It was always some choice I'd made before it.” - Cormac McCarthy, All the Pretty Horses

“The closest bonds we will ever know are bonds of grief. The deepest community one of sorrow.” Cormac McCarthy, All the Pretty Horses

Excited to start #reading #ThePassenger by the peerless #CormacMcCarthy.

I first encountered McCarthy through #AllThePrettyHorses when still in my late teens and the stark poetry of the language, the landscape, and the narrative was transformative. I’ve loved everything he has written since then, and so have very high hopes for this.
