I sorta kinda hate those things, when they take actions (just navigation is fine I guess).

We have a cat
and a kid
and I’m just generally clumsy (#a11ty shoutout for clumsy people)
and I have hundreds of tabs open
and macOS keyboard focus is weird 😅 (clicking on a window can leave the keyboard focus on the old window!)
and I probably don’t love a website enough to learn the shortcuts sorry!

So yeah ‘e’ might mean I want you to end the world but it was more likely just the cat or something

Possibly this is just JIRA ptsd talking

It is a lot more complicated to add keyboard shortcuts to your web app than you might initially think, featuring a big honkin' table. #a11ty https://ericwbailey.website/published/how-an-accessibility-designer-adds-keyboard-shortcuts-to-a-web-app/
How an accessibility designer adds keyboard shortcuts to a web app

Keyboard shortcuts occupy a strange area for web design.

I have a new rule for my photography page. If the picture doesn't resonate with me when I describe it in the alt tag, it's not making the page. Also made it easy for everyone to switch between text and image :) Enjoy!

Do any #webdev folk know: if I inject text into a <dialog> after page load, but before it is shown with showModal(), will screen readers have access to the injected content? Also, is it necessary to set aria-modal="true" on <dialog> elements?

CSS-only Widgets Are Inaccessible

Usually. I originally titled this InacCSS-onlyible. I even made this typographically, er, distinct image. Then I realized it was silly and will instead use the neologism in a talk so I can hear the groans IRL. Interactive widgets powered with only CSS are relatively common as people are playing with…

Mastodon.social alt text analysis report! 🧐

Me and my friend Cristal just published a report on image description usage on mastodon.social, as a group project for the Introduction to Data Science course of the Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Societies Erasmus Mundus Joint Master program.

Thoughts and feedback are welcome 💕

A huge thanks to @stefan for publishing the dataset on which we based our analysis!

NOTE: We are absolutely aware that the report has very little actual relevance, as the dataset contains a super limited amount of posts from one instance only. It was mainly an experimentation to test our data analysis skills.

All of the things I get to say "I told you so" about, now.

with #london elections coming, and all the current worries about photo id voter suppression, i'm finally #goingpostal. the form to do so was a gov.uk webform, so usability is #a11ty good! i will not however be mailing my #postalvote, but instead dropping it off at the station on polling day. this is allowed, and means you still get the physical sensation of joining in, quite possibly without the photo id requirement (voter impersonation is known to be v rare)
