There has also been a shift in donor priorities, with some individuals and corporations opting to redirect their contributions towards other currently pressing social issues. Additionally, the economic downturn since the COVID-19 pandemic in the region has had a negative impact on the financial capacity of potential donors, leading to a decrease in their philanthropic activities.
As a result, the declining donor contributions pose a significant challenge to the institution. Most notably, the organization’s ability to effectively carry out its mission and deliver its programs is at risk. The funds received from donors are vital for supporting ongoing projects, expanding outreach efforts, and ensuring the sustainability of the organization’s operations. Therefore, without sufficient funding, ZU may have to scale back its activities, limit its impact, or even consider discontinuing some of its programs.
Overall, addressing the decline in donor contributions is of significant importance to Zayed University to ensure its continued effectiveness and to fulfill its mission of making a positive difference in the community. Finding alternative sources of funding and implementing strategies to attract new donors or re-engage previous supporters will therefore be crucial in overcoming this challenge and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Institution.
As the communication manager at Zayed University, during a crisis situation like COVID-19 I would heavily rely on the university website as the main communication source. This means I have to ensure that the university’s website has a dedicated section with regularly updated information related to COVID-19. The information ranges from anything in form of announcements, guidelines, and resources. The website will serve as a centralized source of information for all the stakeholders within the institution. I would then utilize email communication to ensure I directly reach the university community. This also includes sending regular updates, guidelines, and instructions to keep students and staff informed about the latest developments, safety protocols, and any changes made to the university’s operations. The 21st century has seen a very huge growth of social media platforms. I would therefore leverage social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn to disseminate important updates, share resources, and address any queries from all our stakeholders. Social media channels are also good for the engagement and interaction with the audience by promptly responding to their queries and concerns. Issueance of press releases and media statements to local and national media outlets, highlighting the university’s response to the crisis, any initiatives taken, and the safety measures in place will also be very essential. This is because in a crisis situation like COVID-19, it is crucial to maintain open lines of communication, provide accurate information, and address concerns promptly. A combination of digital and traditional media channels will help ensure effective communication with the target audience during such challenging times. Partnering with the student organizations to amplify your messaging and engage students is also of much significance. It encourages them to share important updates through their own communication channels and facilitate student-led initiatives that promote health and safety. Lastly I would also utilize internal communication channels such as portals, and staff newsletters to keep faculty and staff informed about the university’s response, guidelines, and any changes to work arrangements.
