Wrap up 2025
March 3/4
It was 25th of March 2025 when we embarked on the final leg of our journey. This moment was more than just another 'trip' for us. With this step we completed the cycling journey and nomadic life we had been living for the past 2.5 years.
During the last four months in Peru, we had already mentally concluded the bicycle travel and were filled with anticipation for the next chapter - an absolutely crazy adventure of a different kind, which we set out for on that day in Lima.

๐Ÿ“ธ 1:
Me (Fiona), squeezed next to the bike-boxes that just fitted into the pre-ordered taxi.
We had ordered a taxi-van and communicated with the company, even sent them measurements and pictures of our, not-so-ordinary luggage, to make sure that they would send a large car... but no... when the driver came, I was already prepared to take a separate taxi to the airport, but in the end, we managed to just fit everything, including me, into the car. ๐Ÿ˜…
๐Ÿ“ธ 2:
Our bikes (Pauline๐Ÿšฒ and Max๐Ÿšฒ) picked up after check in.
๐Ÿ“ธ 3:
We could observe how they loaded our bikes, just under our seats to the plane โœˆ๏ธ
๐Ÿ“ธ 4:
in the aeroplane, just before departure ๐Ÿ˜Š
๐Ÿ“ธ 5:
Still wearing sandals โ˜€๏ธโœŒ๏ธ
๐Ÿ“ธ 6 & 7:
Arrived in Helsinki ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฎ 24h after we started in Lima. I had to change the sandals for boots... ๐Ÿฅถ
We came into a totally different world, it was so quiet and had very few people. ๐Ÿ˜‡
๐Ÿ“ธ 8, 9 & 10:
At the trainstation of Helsinki we assembled our bikes one last time. ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿšฒ, waited 7 hours in the cold trainstation hall, with all the warmish clothes we had, to finally embark the night train northwards...

Wrap Up 2025

The rest of January and the beginning of February were spent at well-known places in the Sacred Valley. These places already felt like home ๐Ÿซ

๐Ÿ“ธ Pictures 1-2:
Back at Rachel's in Urubamba we got a gift from 'Houdina' the chicken that always came into our bungalow - she laid an egg in the corner on the kitchen floor. Wooow, that was a moment! ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ“ธ Pictures 3-5:
Hummingbirds (Colibris) at Willkamayu ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐Ÿ“ธ Pictures 6-14:
In Pisac... Quality time in the hammock, tattoos as our birthday gifts, locals, the markets and the colorful fruits and veggies. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿฅ‘

๐Ÿ“ธ Pictures 15-20:
Last time probably for a while; enjoying Cusco ๐Ÿ˜

It's time to share my visit to the magical place 'Machu Picchu' ๐Ÿค

Early in the morning, around 5:30 am, I boarded the bus that brought me (and all the other tourists) up the mountain to the entrance of Machu Picchu. I was so happy that the rain had stopped by the time we arrived. At 6 o'clock, the gate opened and I could enter the sacred place with the first group of visitors. The thick white clouds and fog were still hanging very low and covered the 'lost city of the Incas' entirely. After a while, the clouds and fog revealed the famous view. It was a truly magical moment! ๐Ÿฅฐ

I can't tell you a lot about the three hour visit. I can not really put it in words. I was just incredibly in awe and so so grateful to be there ๐Ÿ’–

Here some facts:
The site was built in the 15th century, during the height of the Inca Empire, and is believed to have been constructed as a royal estate or religious retreat for the Inca emperor Pachacuti.
Machu Picchu was largely forgotten by the outside world until it was rediscovered in 1911 by the American historian and explorer Hiram Bingham, who brought the site to international attention. In 1983, Machu Picchu was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The site holds great spiritual and cultural significance for the Quechua people.
