Wrap up 2025

It was 25th of March 2025 when we embarked on the final leg of our journey. This moment was more than just another 'trip' for us. With this step we completed the cycling journey and nomadic life we had been living for the past 2.5 years.
During the last four months in Peru, we had already mentally concluded the bicycle travel and were filled with anticipation for the next chapter - an absolutely crazy adventure of a different kind, which we set out for on that day in Lima.

Me (Fiona), squeezed next to the bike-boxes that just fitted into the pre-ordered taxi.
We had ordered a taxi-van and communicated with the company, even sent them measurements and pictures of our, not-so-ordinary luggage, to make sure that they would send a large car... but no... when the driver came, I was already prepared to take a separate taxi to the airport, but in the end, we managed to just fit everything, including me, into the car. 😅

Arrived in Helsinki 🇫🇮 24h after we started in Lima. I had to change the sandals for boots... 🥶
We came into a totally different world, it was so quiet and had very few people. 😇

At the trainstation of Helsinki we assembled our bikes one last time. 🚲🚲, waited 7 hours in the cold trainstation hall, with all the warmish clothes we had, to finally embark the night train northwards...

Budapest offered us a lot 🤩
The really chill vibe in the city, the incredible architecture, the fantastic view from Gellért Hill and over the river towards the picturesque Parliaments building, the streetart, the delicious glutenfree pastries and pizzas, oatmilk cappuccino and even a new hearcut for fiona 💇‍♀️

After one night and only 56km of cycling we exited Serbia again, at the 'three-country-corner' bordercrossing. At this point Serbia, Romania and Hungary are connected. To our surprise there was a crazy fence between serbia and hungary. The existency of romanian territory was only made visible with a flag. We got an exit stamp from Serbia after answering the question from where we are coming. At the customs of Hungary, only two meter further, fiona answered the question 'where are you going' very naively with: 'to the northcap'. The officers laughed, watched through our passport pages with all the stamps from our journey, and couldnt believe that we are going to cycle to our destination. From the border it was only a short flat stretch to reach the hungarian city Szeged. This city would have been nice to visit and discover, (very recomendable!) but since our time schedule is quite tough, we jumped on the next train to Budapest. There we had rented a super tiny mini 1 room apartment, where we (luckily) could squeeze us and our bikes in 🤪

For the last 21 months, we have cycled around the world, discovering countless places and meeting so many people. Together with our dearest, nearest, and most beloved - our family, we are now on this journey for the third time. It is wonderful! 🥰
I want to collect as many valuable moments as possible, but of course, even in this time that we spend together, everyone needs their own time for themselves, and Marc and I are still in the (probably not so quickly completed) processing phase of everything we have experienced so far.
I try to just live in the moment, to enjoy the now and not think at the same time about the farewell. It is especially hard for me now because Leandra had to leave already... 😢

So, lets kick things off with that and give you first a glimpse into our #kitchen 🫖 🍽️ 🫕
Our #stove defines the centerpiece. Since 7 months now we rely on the Japanese Soto 'StormBreaker' dual-fuel cooker (Gasoline and Gas). Prior we had a Primus multifuel cooker that eventually became more trouble than it was worth. It was nothing but a headache. When we were hungry and the stove, once again, failed to work, Marc had to take it apart, clean it, and we still weren't sure if it would function properly afterwards... The #Soto stove has done a great job so far🤞fingers crossed it stays like this! We also bring along a wood-gas stove, which is a real treat to #cook on. For Fiona its the perfect way to calm down since you can't do anything else than feeding the fire 🔥
The trusty #bialetti #mokkapot is a super essential, non-negotiable item! If there is no #coffee in the morning, Fiona isn't happy at all 🫣
Perhaps it looks a bit crazy that we carry two frying pans with us... One pan we got giftet in Hatta (UAE). Probably we'll downsize soon. We do not have plates with us, but a bowl from which we eat together as we have learned in Senegal. The 'brandisbrandisbrand' boxes with the wooden boards we normally use for our breakfast-muesli and to carry coffee powder, sugar and other nutrition. To spice up our meals we have salt, pepper, curry, turmeric, wild oregano (from Greece) and other spice mixes. Additional we bring a tea strainer for loose tea and also a jar full of ordinary tea bags. Besides the three titanium bottles (each 1.2l) and the two (0.75l) stainless steel bottles, each of us use a 1l water bladder. And we have a 2l water bag which we barely use.

After an amazing wedding/good bye celebration with family and lovely friends, we started our journey westwards with a tearful and a joyful eye. 😥 🤩
