Today I walked around to the Boy Charlton Pool.

There I found a wet expressway full of people cars going up and down and up and down in their lanes. Dry, tanned other people were shouting at them from the kerb: 'hold ... go!, hold ... go!' and 'stroke!' and 'legs!'.
I have no idea what these things meant.

Then, in the changerooms, thirtysomething private-school boys boasted in front of each other about central banks' monetary policies and whether the RBA head was 'just gutless'.

All of it without smiles, nor any hint of the absurdities. Everyone doing the formula they have been given, or adopted, for their mornings. My eye-rolling only once returned, WeAreVerySeriousHere.

And the #sunrise over #Woolloomooloo made it all the more surreal.
