"Leo XIV's handling of such issues, or his choice to overlook them, will carry significant implications for his pontificate and the future trajectory of the Catholic Church. ...

Two unresolved and gender-connected issues — Catholic teaching on sexuality and the exclusion of women from ordained ministry — expose the fault lines."

"He can, once and for all, align that teaching with Scripture and enlightened theology, as opposed to the church's deeply ambivalent views of sexuality from the first century, many of which were rooted in Greco-Roman philosophy. Such a shift would transform church doctrine about birth control, same-sex marriage and women's ordination, among other matters."

"Pope Leo XIV begins his papacy with a historic opportunity to close the growing gap between what the church teaches about sex and gender, and the lived experiences and values of a clear majority of U.S. Catholics."

https://www.ncronline.org/i-was-priest-expelled-publicly-supporting-womens-ordination-i-still-believe-it-our-only-future I'm somewhat surprised that #Maryknoll would expel one of their priests for support of #womensordination. Maryknoll does a lot of global missions, some of which involve educating and training women. I don't know why the order would want women to pursue any vocation possible except ordination? Well, besides ordination as a nun, but I'm not sure if religious sisterhood is an "ordination" exactly. It's still good to hear some optimism from a former insider. #catholic
I was a priest expelled for publicly supporting women's ordination. I still believe it is our only future.

In a church that has yet to deal justly with women, I stay a keeper of the vision

I will forever ask, "Why?" Why couldn't I be ordained by my own church for service in hospice, hospital, a retreat center, the military, a women's prison, a battered women's shelter, a parish church?
