The Department of Justice is acknowledging it's removed from its website news releases about criminal cases related to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot. The department says the information about the prosecutions is “partisan propaganda.” The purge of news releases documenting criminal charges, convictions and sentencings is the latest step by the Trump administration to dramatically rewrite the history of the Capitol assault. On that day more than five years ago, hundreds of supporters of Republican President Donald Trump stormed the building in an effort to halt the congressional certification of his 2020 election loss to Democrat Joe Biden.

I know whitewashing in science is nothing new, but this plaque inside the Steele Ocean Sciences Building at Dalhousie University really got me feeling some kind of way today.

Humans didn't hunt the Gray Whales to extinction, colonizers did.

The final paragraph reads like they are putting a positive spin on the climate change caused by the very same extractavist, expansionism colonizer mindset that made them extinct in the first place. As if it all comes out in the wash.

I no longer attend dal, but when I did (over 10 years ago now), I had this idealized view of science, that it was based on logic and principles, that it operated outside of the complexities of the state snd politics. It is why I liked science. But now I see that it is not possible for science to be separated from power structures. The whitewashing was always there, I just didn't see it.

I say it's archival malpractice because they're taking photos of real historical people and face tuning them to have clear modern looking photos to use as promo material, but in the process the person's face is changed. as Shaun pointed out here they turned Gabi Luncă into Carrie Fisher😭 not only whitewashing her but the doctored portrait is already coming up in google image search results for her name.
