What kind of flying insect is this? A smidgen over an inch long, attracted to light, social, it even landed on my (white-masked) nose. It's out of danger now, I hope, given I was afraid I killed it when I shooed it away. I released it outside.

I was watering the plants when I got home and this beetle decided it was getting too soggy. I'm not sure what this lovely bug is. (Please not the dreaded Japanese invasive beetle that eats everything).

I passed several of these insects, mistaking them for poop dollops or dried up plant bits, before I saw this one wiggling around on a leaf. Quite the camouflage.

Help with ID would be appreciated.

Update: Two people have suggested poop-armored leaf beetles, which seems likely.
