I’m so incredibly exhausted, but also feeling so excited. Web Directions Code 2024 was truly an amazing event, I’m so grateful I got to speak and attend! I really can’t believe I met and talked to so many wonderfully interesting people.
absolutely loving @benschwarz’s talk at Web Directions!
always love learning about web performance 🙌🏻
Erin Zimmer had one of the best lines at Web Directions when she said “Flexible box layout is flex box’s full name that it’s mum uses when she’s mad” 😂
@huijing’s awesome talk at Web Directions code mentioned that CSS was not initially intended to be a tool for handling layout. Which, I’ve gotta say, is surprising 🤯 but also not that surprising.
Check out where it’s mentioned in appendix E of CSS level 1:
“CSS1 does not offer:
…
• a layout language: CSS1 does not offer multiple columns with text-flow, overlapping frames etc.”
https://www.w3.org/TR/CSS1/#appendix-e
What an awesome talk by @keithamus! Absolutely love listening to talks from people involved in standards, they always give such interesting insights 🙌🏻
If anyone at #WebDirections wants to deep dive into button vs div... I ran into it so often I made a tutorial based on it: https://weblog.200ok.com.au/2022/12/clickable-divs-and-other-icebergs.html
What an awesome opening talk by @200ok! Couldn’t agree more with the idea of “Less, but better” 🙌🏻
Managed to make it to ACMI for Web Directions Code alive and only 15 minutes late, classic Melbourne trains 🥲
Thank you Web Directions #Code23 for having me speak about the issue with our code. You can find the slides, with all the links and confetti 🎉, right here: https://philnash.github.io/talks/top-5-javascript-issues-in-all-our-codebases.html
