The Guide provides practical and operational guidance to prosecutors and law enforcement authorities across the Western Balkans engaged in cross-border criminal investigations, with the aim of further promoting the effective use of Joint Investigation Teams.The publication is available in all Western Balkan languages, reflecting the Project’s commitment to accessibility and to further support the strengthening of judicial cooperation and operational coordination across the region in the fight against serious and organised crime.

Inter-regional workshop on admissibility of encrypted evidence brings together prosecutors and law enforcement at Eurojust

The inter-regional workshop Handling admissibility of evidence obtained from encrypted networks: operational experience, prosecutorial strategies and evolving jurisprudence in the EU, Western Balkans and countries of the Eastern Partnership was organised by Eurojust through its Western Balkans Criminal Justice (WBCJ) Project, jointly with the WB PACT II and TOPCOP projects at CEPOL in partnership with Europol.

The authorities of Albania and the Attorney General’s Office of Colombia set up two joint investigation teams to tackle trafficking human rights

On 8 and 9 April 2026, the authorities of Albania and the Attorney General’s Office of Colombia set up two joint investigation teams (JITs) with the support of Eurojust. The JITs aim to facilitate investigations and prosecutions in cases involving the trafficking of human beings from Latin America to Europe for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

Western Balkan and Latin American Prosecutors meet in Peru to strengthen cross-border cooperation against organised crime

Prosecutors from the Western Balkans and Latin America gathered in Lima (Peru) for a meeting aimed at enhancing international cooperation in the fight against organised crime. The event, ‘’Networking for Impact: Enhancing Cross-Border Cooperation Between Western Balkan and Latin American Prosecutors in the Area of Organised Crime’’, took place between 18 – 20 February 2025 and marked a significant step towards advancing joint efforts to dismantle international criminal networks.

Counterfeiting cash group disrupted: 12 arrests

Eurojust and Europol supported an operation that put a halt to a criminal group that produced and sold counterfeit euro coins and bills. The criminals were active in North Macedonia and Serbia. Through a joint investigation team (JIT), the North Macedonian and Serbian authorities conducted their investigation leading to the arrest of 12 suspects.

Funded by the European Commission and implemented by Eurojust, the initiative aims to strengthen judicial cooperation within the Western Balkans as well as between the region and the EU in the fight against organised crime and terrorism. Participants are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
