@zinelib @jessamyn @qzap I'm not a subject matter expert; however, the NYT recipe cites "A Treasury of Jewish Holiday Baking", which was published in 2004. The link to the saltine version cites a 2009 survey. Based on their own sources, I would say the matzo version predates the saltines version.
