The Ocean Pact’s first year proves that ambition drives action. 🌊

RT by @EU_MARE: Today’s #AGRIFISH Council featured substantial discussions on the future of the EU’s fishing sector. The sector stands at a critical juncture, as revealed by the #CFP evaluation. Predictable quotas, fleet modernization, and attracting young talent are top priorities and will underpin #Vision2040 and the #OceanAct. We also looked ahead to the next #MedFish4Ever Ministerial Declaration and the importance of cooperation in the Med to rebuild fish stocks. Finally, we took stock of the momentum and progress achieved by the Cypriot Presidency 🇨🇾 on the #MFF negotiations, which will ensure the necessary funding to support our policy goals.

RT by @EU_MARE: My visit to Normandy ends with a good discussion with the fishing community in Port-en-Bessin-Huppain, a leader in innovation. 🎣🇫🇷

We want to see modernised fishing boats in our ports, young people joining the profession, and a vibrant sector , resilient to external shocks, be it consequence of climate change or geopolitical dynamics.

With high fuel costs and the challenges of Brexit, the sector is navigating rough waters. But the EU is here to help. #EMFAF funds are supporting innovation and helping young fishers start their careers, and #Vision2040 will focus on energy transition, generational renewal, and fair competition.

Grateful to @CathChabaud and @s_yoncourtin for having introduced me to Normandy’s realities and for the hospitality of the local community.

RT by @EU_MARE: A frank discussion with the @EP_Fisheries on the findings of the #CFP evaluation as we shape the future of EU fisheries and aquaculture and prepare the #Vision2040.

The evaluation shows real progress in reducing overfishing and strengthening science-based fisheries management, but also tells us that challenges remain, in particular the need to strengthen the sector’s economic resilience and look at simplification.

I thank the Committee members for the constructive discussion and valuable feedback, which will feed our next steps.

Together, we can build a fisheries policy that delivers for fishers, coastal communities, and a healthy ocean. 🌊🎣
