today I learned that the little sling that holds the tailpiece of the violin is called the tailgut. The 90 year old tailgut (possibly real gut?) on our family fiddle broke overnight at one of the ends but I managed to produce a new end seal the old school way, heating the gut to make it swell and winding a bit of string around it. #ViolinRepair
