@lproven the resurgent evil in the East is still interesting in LOTR, but I'm getting Verner Vinge universe flashes at present.
I hope Vernor Vinge is now occupying a Deepness in a sky somewhere in the Transcend, no longer interested in the affairs of us life forms down here in the Slow Zone. #RIP
For those of you who haven’t had a chance to read #Vinge’s amazing sci-if, here’s his prescient and terrifying short story "True Names":
"Even though the Known Net has enormous connectivity, the interests of the participants and the prejudices of the newsfilter software would tend to create virtual partitions. There could be large segments that, sometimes unknowingly, are ignoring each other. Most of the time this would just improve efficiency; in some cases great insights would be lost."
