Some details will be tweaked, but the idea is, embraced in the mid to late 90s in New York, part of a small anarch cell in Queens or something. As the Sabbat starts rolling up the East Coast, she contacts the Camarilla in Manhattan(she presumably had some contact arranging art deals for some of them) because she did not want to see the Sabbat decide to consolidate power in NYC and force her to join. She provides some minor assistance to the battle, maybe her gallery serves as a staging area or she routes shipments through the gallery.
She signs on to the Camarilla, out of fear fo the Sabbat, but she's still an Anarch at heart. She still sees some theoretical value in a Camarilla like organization to deal with large scale problems such as the Second Inquisition, but is committed to neonates and even childer having more of a voice.
25 or so years later, she's getting too many people commenting on her graceful aging for her comfort and decides to look elsewhere. A major city has had its prince go missing(not revealing too many chronicle details), and while that city would have always been on her list of potential new homes, that seals the deal. Even if overthrowing the Camarilla entirely isn't on the table, there's a chance that if she goes there, gets established quickly, she might be able to influence the selection of a new prince, maybe, just maybe, pull enough shenanigans that it's a barony in all but name.
