Alrighty, everything set up for the #GNOME showcase at the hardware bazaar meetup later. A GNOME OS laptop, a #phosh tablet and phone, all connected with each other via #p2panda (via Reflection as a demo), #Nextcloud (calendar, contacts, files) and #Valent /KDE Connect (notifications, clipboard etc.

#Valent tauchte zum ersten Mal im Protokoll der 1. Sitzung des 21. Deutschen Bundestages am 25.03.2025 auf. Das Protokoll findet sich unter https://dserver.bundestag.de/btp/21/21001.pdf
also, #Valent is breaking KDE Connect on my tablet. For some reason they didn't stay connected, and then I tried to reconnect them but my computer didn't show up. So I tried updating Valent (KDE Connect is up to date), and now whenever I reopen KDE Connect on my tablet, it closes out immediately -- apparently not a crash, it's not giving me the "stopped working" message no matter how much it happens.

Apparently if I force-stop KDE Connect and clear it, it'll be able to pair again?

@RadioAzureus there are other implementations like #GSConnect or #Valent that might have a lower footprint in non-KDE environments:

@Satiah sadly #Valent is not available for arm64 and if there are build instructions, they are well-hidden! It is a 'mason' based build, and I know I've done mason builds before, nearly certain…
@Satiah sadly I see this rumour that gsconnect is dead, however there is an alternate called #Valent written by the same person https://www.reddit.com/r/gnome/comments/1798vk2/what_happened_to_gsconnect/

@Lehmanator @agx yep, I just installed #Valent on my phone and it connected successfully to the #GSConnect shell extension on my desktop! πŸŽ‰

Everything seems to work, including turning the phone into a mouse 😁 🐁

(Well, except remotely sending an #SMS through #Chatty, but maybe that's a bit too much to expect already...)

Hey! You're the one behind #valent! Awesome work.

When it comes to stability #phosh is an obvious winner, but that's not all I'm looking for. I wan't the aesthetics, smoothness and functionality of #gnome, and I think that only #gnomemobile will do that on a tablet. I can absolutely do with an unstable system. It's not my main device and I want to use it for experiments but my building-from-source abilities are not there yet.

As of today, I'm finally free of #GNOME extensions! The last extension I depended on was #GSConnect, but I replaced it with #Valent. Thanks @andyholmes :)
