#Maine Governor backs #MillionaireTax, flipping from prior stance

"Maine Governor Janet Mills now supports increasing taxes on the state’s richest residents, reversing her past opposition after lagging in recent polls for a key Democratic Senate primary.

"Mills on Thursday endorsed a millionaire tax included in a budget proposal that passed a committee for the Democrat-controlled legislature. She vetoed a similar increase in 2024 and maintained that such a measure was short-sighted in an interview just a few weeks ago.

"Mills’ flip-flop comes as the 78-year-old trails political newcomer #GrahamPlatner in their contest to be the Democratic nominee to take on Republican #UselessSusanCollins in November. Platner, a 41-year-old oyster farmer, has called for higher taxes on the rich."

"Maine’s two U.S. Senators were split on a resolution aimed at blocking further military action in Iran without Congressional authorization that failed in the Senate on Wednesday.

Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins voted against the procedural measure, while Independent Sen. Angus King voted in favor.

The measure failed along party lines in a 52-48 vote in the Republican-led chamber."

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns regarding the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. I appreciate your taking the time to do so.

The SAVE Act, which was introduced by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), would amend the National Voter Registration Act to require proof of United States #citizenship when registering to vote. It is already illegal for noncitizens to vote in federal elections, but this legislation would establish means for confirming citizenship, require states to establish a process for removing noncitizens from voter rolls, and create federal penalties for knowingly registering a noncitizen to vote in federal elections. It would also establish an alternative verification pathway for individuals who lack proper documentation but are, in fact, United States citizens. The SAVE Act has been referred to the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, on which I do not serve.

Should the SAVE Act or similar legislation concerning federal elections be considered by the full Senate, I will review it carefully. Again, thank you for contacting me.

They have been trying to pass #SAVEAct for years. And yeah, #UselessSusanCollins authored one of the early versions, along with #MartinHeinrich (D-NM). With #Democrats like that, who needs the #GOP?!!!

"U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine), members of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, introduced bipartisan legislation to protect American election systems from foreign interference. The Securing America’s Voting Equipment (SAVE) Act would help safeguard voting systems, registration data, and ballots from theft, manipulation, and malicious computer hackers

The SAVE Act would:
