Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns regarding the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. I appreciate your taking the time to do so.
The SAVE Act, which was introduced by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), would amend the National Voter Registration Act to require proof of United States #citizenship when registering to vote. It is already illegal for noncitizens to vote in federal elections, but this legislation would establish means for confirming citizenship, require states to establish a process for removing noncitizens from voter rolls, and create federal penalties for knowingly registering a noncitizen to vote in federal elections. It would also establish an alternative verification pathway for individuals who lack proper documentation but are, in fact, United States citizens. The SAVE Act has been referred to the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, on which I do not serve.
Should the SAVE Act or similar legislation concerning federal elections be considered by the full Senate, I will review it carefully. Again, thank you for contacting me.

The primaries aren't until next June. Flawed as he is, Platner would be better than #UselessSusanCollins. However, Janet Mills is looking better (consistency, sortakinda). Jared Golden of the 2nd District won't be running, so I think Maine will be stuck with Paul LePlague in the 2nd District, and Chellie Pingree in the 1st District. @MusiqueNow

"#Maine Senator Susan Collins proposed her own amendment to President Donald Trump's self-proclaimed '#BigBeautifulBill.'
"She called for doubling proposed funding for rural health care providers to $50 billion.
"Senator Collins said the change would be paid for by increasing the tax rate on the wealthy.
"Collins noted the recent string of hospital closures and the current financial strain being put on #NursingHomes.
" 'Mr. President, when these facilities close their doors, the people they serve are often left behind without access to healthcare. This amendment would help keep them open and caring for those who live in these rural communities,' Sen. Collins said.
"Politico reports the Senate ultimately voted against the amendment by a vote of 78 to 22."
