I just uploaded my 2,000th "Species" (Taxon) on iNaturalist: a Red-shouldered Bug, Jadera haematoloma, that landed on a table at the Kingsland Wildflower Festival last weekend.

It's my 1,836th "Wild" Species, i.e.: not captive nor cultivated, e.g.: plants in my garden.

My last public appearance of the season is ... TODAY!

Join me for a "Pollinator Safari / Walkabout" from 1-3pm at the East 4th Street Community Garden in Kensington, Brooklyn:

"We'll "hunt" for pollinators, and other flower visitors, around the garden. As we try to identify them, we'll learn about the garden’s biodiversity and ecology."

I realized over the weekend that I had never uploaded any photos or observations from my 2nd visit to the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. I also discovered I'd never processed observations from a trip to a Long Island bog, back in 2014!

Just catching up on old observations - most of those from a June 2015 field trip in Pennsylvania - brought me to 1,855.

I'm now up to 1,860. By the of 2022, I had 1,529 species. Last year it was 1,829.

My projection of 2,000 by year-end was conservative. Let's say ... 2,200 for this year ?!

I think this is the year I break 20,000 Observations and 2,000 Species on iNaturalist. I have at least two trips planned that will bring me to rare habitats and their inhabitants.

Not to mention that I find new (to me) species every time I explore New York City!
