In 1718, #Peter_I ordered the burning of the library of the #Kyiv_Pechersk_Lavra. In 1780, the library of the #Kyiv_Mohyla Academy - collected over more than 150 years - was burned.

Later, the #Muscovites banned the publication of #Ukrainian books in #Ukraine and their import from abroad. They rewrote #Ukrainian poetry and prose using the #Russian alphabet. And in the 1930s, after the rollback of #Ukrainization, they removed #Ukrainian books and dictionaries -

Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian cities have alienated even those who previously supported closer ties with Moscow.
Even #Odesa, a city with an historically pro-Russian outlook, has embraced the movement toward #Ukrainization, further underlining the loss of influence of Russian #imperialism.
