#MichaelAshcroft has been around for a long time. He is thought to have provided a lot of funding for #conservative candidates during the year before the 2005 #ukgeneralelection and was credited with many of the gains achieved by the #conservativeparty on that occasion . #edwardlister , a former employee of one of his companies, was first leader of #wandsworthcouncil and then later on twice chief of staff to #BorisJohnson . #edwardlister is now a life peer.

Pallavi Devulapalli; Green Party election special. Video edition | The Locked up Living Podcast: Surviving and thriving in prisons and other challenging environments

Welcome to the podcast where we will delve into the world of politics in the run up to the UK General Election. In today's episode, we have a special guest, Dr. Pallavi Devulapalli, a Green Party councillor and spokesperson on health. With a background in medicine, environmental activism and a passion for making a positive change, Pallavi shares her motivations for entering the political arena and her determination to be a part of the solution. We discuss the challenges of the current political landscape, including corruption and the need for better representation. Pallavi highlights the Green Party's unique advantage of not being influenced by big business, allowing them to focus on science, ethics, and compassion. We also explore the party's approach to cutting crime, addressing the wider determinants of health, and their stance on immigration. Join us as we uncover the underlying philosophy of the Green Party and how their commitment to the environment shapes their policies across various areas. Get ready for an insightful and thought-provoking conversation with Dr. Pallavi Devulapalli   The Green Party believes that addressing the wider determinants of health, such as poverty and lack of opportunities, will help reduce crime. They advocate for making drugs available through controlled regulation to improve safety and reduce crime. The Green Party's policies are interconnected, with links between health, transport, defense, peace, and security. They aim to reduce inequalities in population health and draw on the work of Sir Michael Marmot. The Green Party opposes MPs having investments in private healthcare and believes in the interconnectedness of mental and physical health. Their underlying philosophy is based on compassion and helping all living creatures on the planet. They advocate for a public national health service and increased funding to restore and sustain it. 8. The Green Party welcomes refugees and opposes dehumanizing language and rhetoric surrounding them. They believe in speaking up and gaining power to implement their policies, even if it means challenging the two major parties. Pallavi finds nourishment and optimism through practicing yoga and finding joy in her work as a GP and in politics.

This matters

Yesterday (Monday 3rd June) we saw an utterly desperate Tory party rolling the dice by trying to make this election all about hating LGBT people. This hurts. They deliberately did this in Pride mon…

Elon Musk has turned Twiter/X into a conduit for virulent hate speech.
Given the torrent of abuse targeting leading figures in the UK general election, Britain ought to consider banning the platform until basic moderation has been restored.
Using Twitter is a vote of confidence in oligarchic fascism.

@standupmaths published a video recently on this very thing, and got an expert in to explain some of the difficulties in mapping local elections to general elections (and vice versa).

Did the #CrowdStrike problem really affect the most computers in history, as some hyperbolic reports claim? Probably not.

The numbers of computers hit by major worms and viruses over the decades is probably higher. ILOVEYOU was reported as 50M infections, just for 1 example.

But the lesson taught by the recent #UKGeneralElection results is surely that it is not how many computers one hits, it is how many of the *right sort* of computers one hits. Sheer numbers is the wrong metric.

Much as I was relieved at the outcome of the #UKGeneralElection & the results make me slightly optimistic, I still find it depressing that the views I think would lead to a better world are still so niche: steady state rather than growth; treating billionaires as a social failure & people in need of mental health treatment; international relations based on cooperation & peace-seeking rather than competition & war-making.

I’ve been a bit distracted the last few weeks - did #reesmogg really get thumped back to whatever undershire he came from in most recent #ukgeneralelection ?

I sw that Labor did resounding well, but wasn’t able to pay usual mind to details.

All of the #UKGeneralElection literature delivered to my house in #LewishamNorth constituency. Except for the #GreenParty leaflet & one #LabourParty flyer all were through the post

I am hearing that whilst the Voter ID protected us against non-existent forms of #UKGeneralElection fraud, the real fraud that may well have happened in significant numbers on the 4th of July (tens, over 100 by some reports, of #ReformUKLtd candidates not showing up anywhere and possibly not even existing) was never protected against at all.

I spotted the empty photograph placeholders, too.
