The clip was quickly taken up by users who speculated that the driver might be Jeffrey Epstein, the financier who died in jail in 2019, sparking renewed debate about whether the deceased mogul could somehow still be alive.
The driver, who identified himself on Twitter as “Palm Beach Pete,” later broke his silence to deny the rumors. He explained that he had been unknowingly recorded while traveling on I‑95, and his phone was bombarded with messages after the clip spread. In a short video message, Pete said, “I’m not Jeffrey Epstein. I’m Palm Beach Pete,” and clarified that he had no connection to the late financier beyond the superficial resemblance that fueled the speculation.
For context, Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal charges of running a large‑scale sex‑trafficking operation involving underage girls. He died in his jail cell the same year, with his death officially ruled a suicide by hanging. In January 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice released more than three million documents—photos, videos, and emails—related to the case, naming numerous public figures such as Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Spacey and Naomi Campbell.
