The multitude of things I *should* do combined with a lack of things I *must* do, is really messing with my verve this morning.

Time to list it out, I guess.

Some time ago, I had a boss that knew I was an #AFOL and he had come across a #Lego designer position. "You should apply! How could you not!?"

I was disappointed by a stint by video game industry & I had a sense that pursing this would be the same (nevermind I've seen what professional designers can do and I'm not in the same stratosphere). However, I couldn't articulate why I was wary of making Lego a job. Thankfully, I now have a cartoon that explains it better than I could. #TuesdayTellAll

One of the biggest challenges for anyone thrust into a #SoftwareGovernance role is that most of us haven't experienced a variety of governance approaches, much less practiced them; it is like handing someone a bat for the first time and expecting them to hit a home run for the corporate team!

I'm grateful for how easy my MN town makes keeping up with affairs, like this YouTube meeting last night - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnpS0VeI1yc

The calm give and take is good governance in action.

I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.

But, with practice, I'm getting better about being OK with that.

By all accounts, HBO's #TheLastOfUs is amazing - fantastic cast, intriguing worldbuilding, fantastic visual and audio design, etc; it is the video-game adaptation everybody has been waiting for.

And I can't watch it for the same reason I STILL can't bring myself to watch Contagion, the early pandemic streaming rewatch. With all that is STILL happening, biological disaster movies are a nerve too raw, an anxiety too real, a stress still too lived to also "unwind" too.

Oh dear. We've reached that phase with one of our teens where to try is to paint a target on your back; that stage where not trying is seen as less risky than failing outright, when you cut yourself down -make fun yourself - before anyone else can. It is brutal to see play out in real time with their peer group. It is a phase - I went through it too - but painful none-the-less.

Like many folks, I'm back at work today and dealing with the post-holiday grayness. To help, I'm:

* Taking a moment to list things I'm grateful for
* Seeking out humor - my last Follow Friday is a place to start (https://mastodon.social/@matthewreinbold/109605193817228660), or check out Forrest Brazeal's musical shenanigans (of #Hardcore engineer and Re-org rag fame) - https://mastodon.social/@matthewreinbold/109623534656934603
* Reaching out and checking in on friends and family

Small things, sure, but things that can easily be done.

In my office I have a coffee table just behind my chair where I stack my "in progress" books. Though, being honest, many in the pile are not so much in progress but "won't finish".

And that's OK! Whatever the reason, there is no law saying you must endure to the end of one before starting something more exciting, relevant, or better written.

I'll put these on my shelf. I might come back to them when I change again. Or I may not. And that's OK, too.
