The IT industry is disheartingly trend-driven. Today it's AI, yesterday it was blockchain and before that it was big data, IoT, micro-services and many other.

I don't know to what degree that's caused by venture capital looking for the next big thing to drive market enthusiasm, and to what degree it's caused by tech-optimism and magical thinking within the industry itself.
