@EllenInEdmonton @Fanua @jcurries I thought the same thing about #treewithdeeproots If you don't understand those words by the time it's over, you're literally not paying attention.

End of year drama challenge 2025

Day 11 : A drama that taught you something new?

#kdrama #Treewithdeeproots (2011)

It taught me lots of things on several subjects I knew nothing about
- a part of history of early Joseon
- the story of Hangeul, I didn't know that it was created so late in history and on purpose
- notions about philosophy of neo-confucianism

End of year drama challenge 2025

Day 9 : Did you watch older dramas in 2025?

Yes, actually, in 2025, I wached a few dramas of 2025 πŸ˜…, and a lot of dramas from other years.
And I wached a few kdramas that were 10 years and more old in 2025 : #ScentOfAWoman (2011) #treewithdeeproots (2011) #thegirlwhoseessents (2015)
#secret (2013)
#killmehealme (2015)
This last one was chaotic and i really liked that, it is now a favorite of mine.

My husband and I are finally on episode 20 of #TreeWithDeepRoots I am a nerdy person to the point of making people cringe, but this has made even me stop and say, "Wait, a #kdrama about the development and propagation of the *alphabet* was that popular? That frequently discusses philosophies of government? And for international audiences as well?"

The big nerd in me is now, like, okay, do Hindu Math next.

Should I just settle in for the next episode of #TreeWithDeepRoots or should I stick around to see if the Senate Dems humiliate themselves anymore tonight?

I guess the question is, am I going to find more mealy mouthed corruption in my #kdrama or in #uspol ?

@stuffjolikes I mention watching #kDrama #SixFlyingDragons (2015) before #TreeWithDeepRoots (2011) because the latter continues historical events and timeline of the other, especially what happens with the confucius scholar society Sambong led during founding of Joseon, and their later opposition to the creation of hangul by King Sejong. But, not necessary otherwise. Two of the six "dragons" are fictional. In TWDR So-yi/Dam, Ddol-bok, Moo-hyul are fictional. Shin Sae Kyeong plays FL in both.
A question for #kdrama folks on here.. does anyone have a list of historical dramas that are vaguely based on real people and events in the correct chronological order. I really want to watch #TreeWithDeepRoots but feel I probably ought to watch some earlier ones first. Think someone mentioned #SixFlyingDragons but not sure how true some others are like #EmpressKi or #RedSleeve - thanks in advance πŸ™‚
@dnkboston @EllenInEdmonton that was actually one of my biggest issues. I didn't think the story was particularly complex and to me, the episodes were stupidly overlong and padded with filler. It was 24 episodes of 75 minutes average length, #TreeWithDeepRoots told a complex historical story in 24 episodes of 65 minutes each, 4 HOURS less total runtime.
@EllenInEdmonton He is awesome in this - he was great in #KDrama #TreeWithDeepRoots too as King Sejong. In this one, He and the actor playing his daughter, Chae Won Bin, owned and carried the show.
@EllenInEdmonton Jang Hyuk is central to #TreeWithDeepRoots but he does not play Sejong
