I finally decided to switch from Firefox as my primary browser on my MacBook Pro to Duck Duck Go. What finally got me to switch was their privacy protection service. While the Privacy Pro option is a few dollars a month the protection is better than any other browser, as far as I know.

For example, it told me, after I went to HomeDepot.com to check on lumber prices, that there were 116 tracking attempts blocked. I was only there a couple of minutes and probably looked at 6 or so pages.

It also does personal information removal from data broker sites.

What I find really funny about how AI has managed to speed up the enshitification of the internet... is this.

SEO destroyed search, you simply can't find anything relevant because it's page after page of garbage unrelated to your search, and the top page is always AI garbage and ads.

So people started adding 'reddit' to their searches, to prioritise 'human' answers.

So AI companies, did a deal with reddit to scrape every single post to train their LLM's.

Except... reddit is 10% actual answers to questions and 90% shitposts.

So now your searches are basically AI answers quoting reddit shitposts as factual.

Use DuckDuckGo folks, install the app on your phone too, and turn on tracking protection whilst you're at it.
