I think I'm going to let my #GooglePlay account expire.
As time goes on, I get apps randomly pulled down by Google for random policy nonsense that gets implemented in the interim. And now, thanks to some big overhaul, they're going to kill my account anyway if I don't "verify".
Despite it being a personal account, this apparently means flashing my personal information all over the account on the off chance I might sell some of these apps?
Just not worth it anymore. Especially since the Android developer experience has largely been a miserable journey for me over the years. I enjoy the coding itself, but the build sucks ass. Every time I return to a project after a brief pause it means a billion little updates and finding things broken, etc. In fact, that's what caused me to prioritize writing responsive HTML5 apps where possible over native mobile nowadays.
The only two native Android apps I still give a shit about are #ToneDef and a #SubGenius watch face for Google Wear devices.
The former stopped being updated on the 'Play' store in 2023 (in favor of F-Droid/Github releases), the latter got pulled from the store for some fucking random-ass policy-change reason.
Withdrawing from the teat of these mega-corporations should probably be my priority anyway.
That said, looks like ToneDef is gone from F-Droid for some unknown reason. And getting your app on there again is a fuckin' hassle.
So I guess direct Github APK releases are where it's at, baby. π
