Seems I’m in error when tooting that #GasExport contract have ‘fixed prices’. They are way more complicated than that from what I am reading. Nonetheless, they do exempt govt tax regime changes in some form or other (I haven’t gone deeply enough — nor do I intend to — into the complex details of contractual clauses to clarify this).
None of the above changes what matters most one iota. Australia gets bugger all benefit from gas export, the environment is heavily compromised and nothing the #GasExportingIndustry will ever do can compensate for or rehabilitate this. It’s up to our collective Govt(s) to redress these wrongs.
Nor does it change the fact that #Japan not only slaps an #importTax (derives sovereign income from…) on the gas it ships in from Australia, but it #OnSellsGas at a profit as well. And THAT is where Australian benefits go to.
I mean, I like Japan as much as the next person, but this is liking a robber for robbing you. If that wasn’t enough of a bloody nose, we have a #PM who, allegedly, gave his word that Australia would not try to profit from its own Gas resources while everyone else from production to shipping is raking it in by the heavy bucket load. Tell me, how does this make sense to you?
Vote #Greens, they put a stop to this #thieving.
