Criticism of #TheBoys.
After about four episode in, I think I'm getting the gist of its political leanings. While it is satire and critical of corporate hegemony, I'm sensing there is still a centrist outlook overall, with a belief the US are still the good guys in the end.
I could be wrong but the plane hijack scene felt off to me.
I'm sick of seeing Arabs portrayed in US movies and TV as the archetypal bad guys. The plane hijack is clearly a reference to 9/11, but this side of the genocide in Gaza and the US-Israeli joint attack on Iran, throwing Arab terrorists into the story just comes across to me as racism.
idk, there's nothing necessarily wrong with the terrorists being Arabs -- it is a reference to 9/11 -- but the Arab terrorist trope is very tired now.
I see also there's a blanket satirising of everything in the show. I'm not much into animals being killed for comic purposes. And Deep's concern for animal welfare is treated like a joke instead of a valid concern.
If the shows aim is to critique corporate dominance, then sure that satire should be on the Ocean park, not the person who cares about animal welfare.
It's early days, but I suspect the show will flip flop in its political outlook throughout the series.
