YouTubeThe Waco Brothers is the honky-tonk punk band that lets Jon Langford (of The Mekons) be the kid in the candy store, playing in a genre he's been known to love going back to his "Fear and Whiskey" days.

The Waco Brothers | the PROPAGANDA site
The Waco Brothers is a honky-tonk roadhouse country-punk band from Chicago. They are said to be "half-Cash, half-Clash", which pretty much captures the essence of the band. It started out as a side project for The Mekons' Jon Langford when he settled in Chicago, who brought some of his fellow musicians (among them, Alan Doughty from Jesus Jones, Joe Camarillo from NRBQ) to play at bars for free beer. Langford has a well known track record in this particular merger of styles: The Mekons went through a well-known honky-tonk period between '85 and '88, and produced a handful of albums, starting with Fear and Whiskey. The Waco Brothers is where he picks up this thread and digs deeper into this particular mesh of genres in his own way.
