I have a pair of Tardis earrings earmarked on Etsy, and now I'm watching the 2024 Doctor Who at the Proms the pull is real!
Last night, I listened live to the Proms, with Mark Elder and the Halle. Mahler 5 was excellent, but I also *really* enjoyed the James Macmillan premiere, Timotheus, Bacchus and Cecilia.
Tonight I'm catching up on Friday's Prom. And another premiere, Ben Nobuto's Hallelujah Sim. Witty, engaging - I loved it.
It's so good to hear entertaining new work!
Meanwhile, for the BBC this is just their bread and butter. The licence fee funds orchestras in a way that private organisations largely wouldn’t bother. Because there’s nothing in it for them.
Things like #TheProms are why I’m rabidly pro-BBC.
Could you imagine Global running the numbers on an 8 week festival whose primary aim is to democratise orchestral music, and then choosing to actually bother? At best they’d give it a week, on the proviso that it was all sponsored by fucking Lexus, or some shit.
Feeling wiped out, not sure if this is fatigue from the Ajovy kicking in as it’s been a week or 🤷🏼♀️.
