Having my music library on shuffle, it followed a #ThePackAD song with a #WhiteStripes song, and I'm telling you, The Pack A.D. stomps all over Jack White.

You want some kick-ass guitar/drum rock? Get yerself some of The Pack A.D.

At the #ShonenKnife show in #Tacoma, and their opener, #ThePackAD, was fucking awesome. Just blitzed their #Bandcamp page while waiting for the Knife.

The Female Japanese Grandma Aquabats

First off, let me give you my grandma frame of reference: I live in Colorado and one of our representatives is a grandma in her 30’s. And that’s as far as we’ll take that because she’s sad and Shonen Knife and The Pack AD are not.

The Bots opened. Sorry, I mean The Pack AD opened. But surely you can forgive me for confusing one punk duo with raw energy and a DGAF attitude with another punk duo with raw energy and a DGAF attitude. They bopped and rolled, and I do mean bopped – heads, bopping, in, unison – although maybe not as much rolling. No one was on the ground.

They were succeeded by The Aquabats! So what a surprise when three japanese grannies took the stage instead. Now, they wore colourful costumes like The Aquabats. And the moved around ish like The Aquabats. And they had the crowd chanting positive phrases like “candy!” like The Aquabats.

But Shonen Knife, apparently, are different. They’re a J-punk band exuding wholesomeness and adorableness. I never thought a Japanese woman talking about quesadillas would elicit such a loud response from the crowd. But hey, wholesomeness and adorableness. I mean, the music and show was good without the comfortability of language barriers and sweetness, but those aspects definitely didn’t hurt!

Now the problem is: are they well-known enough for their discography to be available at my local record stores?

Bands Who Either Don't Have a Bassist or Don't Have a Guitarist

Not every band needs a guitarist or a bassist. These rock and metal band's certainly don't.
