The Northern Pikes were one of the three bands that, to me, characterize Canadian rock at the end of the 80s, along with The Grapes of Wrath and 54-40. (A few years before the Tragically Hip came to dominate.) The Pikes' best-known song was the jokey "She Ain't Pretty", which I'm all hipster about because it's a little more obvious. I think my favourite part of this song is the jauntiness of the quick 6/8 time, giving it an almost syncopated feel or something.
