I used to love #TheGivingTree book when I was a kid.... but then I grew up and saw it for what it was---mothers are expected to be so utterly selfless that they'd give their actual lives for unthankful offspring into adulthood with no thought to their own needs.

That was an unhealthy mindset then and is only recognized as such now.

Nothing wrong with it, but I just finished Klara and the Sun and I think every Kazuo Ishiguro novel is a more or less a retelling of The Giving Tree
