I didn't notice #TheGX was back. I have been using @warthog9's TheGX blocker script via a cron job since April.

@supernovae following up: here's the moderation stuff i was working on. shelving it to get back to Feditext. might be useful to others.
• https://github.com/VyrCossont/m1000 implements a webhook listener automod bot in Rust which automatically creates reports when posts or users match on configurable words, regexes, or link domains. should be able to handle another #thegx situation, or a small link-spam campaign. proof of concept, not quite prod-ready, but i'm already running it on my home instance.
• https://github.com/VyrCossont/mastodon/commit/df8be12f1190769aa530590163f9cbf56294dd52 removes the `if local?` check from Mastodon's `status.*` and `account.*` webhooks, allowing `m1000` to moderate remote posts and users.
• https://github.com/VyrCossont/mastodon/commit/528afe989e1aa1e1a1069e2f420c498e78fc9f08 adds a `report.updated` webhook to Mastodon, useful for integration with external ticketing systems.
• https://github.com/VyrCossont/mastodon/commit/0a869f0d31e6ecbf57d25451ab60b52bf35730d8 creates an API for Mastodon's audit log, which currently doesn't have one. this would be useful for admin apps.

@supernovae being the person who contributed those webhooks, i'm in favor, obviously.
my next steps would be:
- patch out the `if local?` checks on them so tools can see incoming remote posts as well as local posts.
- build a basic tool that does keyword, regex, and link domain matching on posts and their accounts to report posts for mod review. this is still reactive tooling with no feedback loop, but we need to be able to handle situations like #thegx, but only when it's that clear-cut should there be an automatic action.
- train mods to reclassify reports as related to spam or specific rule violations before closing them. this lets us start building a training set of closed reports and their resolutions: was this post actually spam?
- connect the tool to a content-based filtering package like rspamd or SpamAssassin so it can start learning. both of these also integrate with existing email spam blocklists, so we'd also get some benefit from email spam campaign link blocklists, etc.…

from what I can glean on this hashtag, mods for each instance can periodically block @/thegx as it starts creating new accounts & it blocks it for all users in that instance

@cosmality #MastoAdmins can mass search and block #thegx #spam accounts all at once to all of their server users easily by going to Preferences> Moderations> Accounts, and doing a search.
They pop up so often, I have the direct link to search bookmarked on my browser's favorite bar.
Attached: 1 image #SelfHosted, #MastoAdmin, and others, you can block all of the THEGX accounts popping up from multiple instances all at once by going to your Preferences, Moderation, choosing Accounts, ALL or Remote and search 'thegx', checking all and suspending if you admin #Mastodon. As new accounts appear hourly, it seems, you might need to do this often.
