There is a type of spam we see on META that I don’t see as often on the Fediverse. You think you’re engaging with a real person, only for them to share a link about their product — or in this case, their blog post about their book deal and holdings with Google.
It is called long-form spam. It draws you in just to bait you.

Adam Jacobs 🇺🇦I've noticed that the spam filtering in Thunderbird Mail, which has previously been amazingly good at distinguishing legitimate emails from spam, has recently started flagging quite a few legitimate emails as spam.
Is that just me or has anyone else noticed it?

Jeffrey HaasI've been spending a bit more time dealing with my self-hosted email server and its spam load. The attached article was a fun reminder that so much of our ecosystem of being abused by randos on the net is caused by email addresses that are not only long-lived, but also easy to scrape.
