IanMoore3000I am I think now up to date once more with #TheDarkIsReading and liking the book more than when I started. The protagonist has more agency now and there is more to it than just him undergoing a series of strange encounters. It's still a bit "the Dark is Rising and you must defeat it by completing a series of arbitrary tasks", but the book is more about atmosphere than plot, and Susan Cooper's evocation of atmosphere is masterful.

I think I'm up to date with #TheDarkIsReading , or will be when I've read today's chapter. It's atmospheric but I'm a bit ambivalent about "you are the chosen one" narratives. Also Will seems a bit reactive - finding himself in a succession of strange situations he doesn't really understand. I'm hoping he becomes a bit more active. #TheDarkIsRising
BarbaraThe Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper - this is one I’ve seen people rave about over the years but never read myself. Inspired by #TheDarkIsReading chat here recently I bought a copy in readiness for the read along. 2 chapters in (and also 2 episodes into the BBC radio production), and I’m loving the atmospheric spookiness
