The Chinese on the bottom is my cat's name. If you recognize it, you're probably thinking, "uh, that's Japanese!", and yes, you're correct, but I adopted my cat while I was living in China and named him the Chinese version of a Japanese word: rΓ©nzheΜ, or ninja :)

This was my first tattoo, gotten about 20 years ago, commemorating a torrid love affair, but also doing double duty as a protective emblem and spiritual compass, honoring the laws of nature. I have a Tyr-shaped scar in my right hand, so I look at this combination as "one spear in my hand, and one on my shield," symbolizing the archetype of the spiritual warrior, doing battle with one's inner demons.
