If your Miniware #TS80P "suddenly" displays 165Β°C even with ice-cold soldering tips, it might be because you accidentally installed IronOS for the TS80 (without P) on it, and then forgot about it. πŸ™ˆβ€‹ πŸ˜‚β€‹ #LFMF

I’m doubting the #TS80P will be useful for thicker gauge automotive wiring, but with its higher wattage, maybe it’ll surprise me (especially if I pick up an different tip.) Certainly will be useful for thinner gauge automotive wiring and the portability is insane.

I’ve used my old 110V AC soldering iron off-grid using my #GoalZero #Yeti400’s 300W pure-sine AC inverter in the past (though, recently, not effectively), so will probably pick up a butane soldering iron for larger off-grid tasks.

I’ll do a little more practice with the #TS80P, then I’ll use it to complete the re-assembly of my #Apple #Newton #eMate (speaker and another pair of wires had to be desoldered for disassembly.) I had already rebuilt & re-greased the hinges, including adding washers to mitigate future catastrophic failure.

Might actually have it up and running as a terminal for my #OpenBSD workstation before next weekend’s #GNUM No. 12!
