PolarRES was at the
#TiPACCs #AntarcticPolicyEvent yesterday!
The agenda included eye-opening presentations💡 and fascinating Policy World Café discussions about subjects such as #tippingpoints, the implications of coupled models, and the #Antarctic #icesheet 🗨️🧊.

At today's #Tipaccs @OceanIceEU policy meeting, on #Antarctica and #TippingPoints, @nicojourd made a similar point to mine: the #RossIceShelf is the same size as the #NorthSea, predicting #iceShelf melt rates at the grounding line from an ocean point is like predicting ocean temperatures in Denmark with observations from the Atlantic. I often say that Antarctica is really big - and one of the reasons that it's quite hard to work out what is going on is the sheer size as well as lack of observations.
We would not expect the same weather and climate across the US, and #Antarctica is almost 1.5 times bigger than the USA...
