@jon This is the default at least for #TGVs in France as well, mostly for "#security" reasons I guess. The platform is announced about 20 minutes before departure. This is not yet as bad as in the US where rail travel is apparently modelled after air travel (based on my experience of a Amtrak journey between Charlottesville VA and Washington DC around 2008). My experience with french customs is quite recent though, two months worth of Interrail in March and April.
@jon #DePanne - #Luxembourg - #Metz - #Strasbourg +return with a bike defeated me. The info on which Lux-Metz trains carried bikes was different to what CFL said. Platforms often also wanted to route me via Lille onto #TGVs that carried no bikes and I think some couldn't cope with #SNCB carrying bikes on a day ticket not a reservation for each train.
#SNCF πŸ‡«πŸ‡· train station names can be quite a thing. Take #Meroux and #Belfort-MontbΓ©liard-TGV. Two different stations, right? Well, not quite. It’s the SAME station. For regional trains on tracks D and E, its Meroux. For high-speed #TGVs from tracks 3 and 4 it’s the other one. Locals might well be aware of that and plan for a connection here, but the rest … . 🀦🀷
