It's the third time my account got suspended by reddit for 'suspicious activity'.

I have a feeling it's because I'm using a VPN and Sync for reddit with my own API key, but I'm surprised this only started happening this year.

It's been nearly half a year since I've been using reddit this way, and they only started the suspensions in early February.

Yesterday I got suspended, and today I got suspended again. Fun stuff, guess I won't be interacting with reddit through Sync and see how it goes.

So, #syncForLemmy (aka #syncForReddit but for lemmy) is now available in beta stage. Personally I'm more of a Boost kinda guy so I'm not super interested in it, but I already see people complain about the one-time purchase price. It's 22€. Now, that is indeed high. Some might say very high. But you have to understand that lemmy is niche with a lot (a lot lot) less users than reddit. Meaning the "few" people on lemmy gotta spend more than the many of reddit to end up in a similar profit range.

Sync for Reddit is no more, thanks to Condé Nast taking a page out of the Twitter playbook and charging ridiculous fees for its API.

But Sync is working on an for Lemmy, which is not THE late great Lemmy of Motorhead, but a fediverse alternative to reddit.

@christianselig it's a damn shame how Reddit handled this, even though I use #syncforreddit on Android I feel much what you have said the last month or so had been much in the same vein for that developer.

I'll use Reddit less because of their actions and I'll no longer contribute posts to the platform as will many others. I suspect most regular users won't notice, but for me, well I like to take moral stands.

I'd rather help build something new and better than linger and support bad actors.

The developer of Sync for Reddit is working on Sync for Lemmy, and more information about it can be found at https://old.reddit.com/r/syncforlemmy. Typical of Reddit, if you try to access the subreddit via the standard site, it’ll try to direct you to use their app instead.

The #Reddit protest started strong but that time limit was a mistake right from the start and it's gone down hill quite a bit despite the awesome trolls on the start page. Now the 3rd party Reddit client #SyncForReddit will apparently try to switch to #Lemmy instead of shutting down, if a few more projects go that route the Lemmy app ecosystem could develope far quicker than I ever expected! I think if we want to not only hurt Reddit but also save some of the devs work that's a great strategy!
