Well. Already I know two teachers who are sick with you-know-what.
One preschool class reportedly has more kids out sick than not, all at once.
Folks, actual classes haven't even started yet. This is still summer childcare, before the September melange.
Seems strains in #BC #Canada right now often have a very fast onset - symptoms 1-2 days after exposure. Also some very high contagion - getting sick from brief outdoor exposure to a pre-symptomatic child.
Remember that ~70% of household index cases are a child bringing it home from school.
And there's a lot of people coughing a dry cough in public. Doubling of cases in Nova Scotia (where surveillance isn't entirely dismantled). BC wastewater remains high (https://zeroes.ca/@anarchodelphis/113053328754102637)
The omens bode ill. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones. If you can convince your children to mask at school, you will be doing them a huge favour. If you can engage more layers of defenses against airborne pathogens, this is an appropriate time. If you can convince a teacher to hand out free N95s to sick students, or to keep classroom windows open, that is a good deed.
Be the caremonger, for those who haven't the power to take care of themselves.
