Ordered some new orthotics last week, finally put them in my footwear today before walking the dog.
Hadn't realised how much my old orthotics had deteriorated. I have pain in the outside of my legs as I'm using muscles that I don't when walking without them...
So I need to replace them far more often.
I think every 6 months should do, I've got a fresh pair in my winter/waterproof rockers, I'll get another pair for my summer rockers that are breathable.
If you have an issue with walking, it's worth getting a gait analysis done by a professional. It's helped me no end, I was walking on the outside of my feet, rolling them inwards so the ball of my foot was the last thing to touch the ground.
It's probably the reason I wrecked both of my ankles playing football (that's proper football, not the hand egg kind), as both ankles rolled over and caused muscle/ligament damage up the outside of lower leg to the knee. It's probably also the reason I developed an unstable patella 20yrs later as the damage healed adequately for the NHS to dismiss me, but should have had surgery to correct properly... surgery I couldn't afford in the late 90's

As I suffer from #Supination with my feet (they roll outwards) I've had to change the kinds of footware that I buy and use orthotics. It's made so much difference and I can now walk much further before the pain in my ankle/knee/back is triggered.
But finding 'rocker' shoes is hard. Stores have no clue, so I've turned to a type of running trainer from Brooks as they're virtually rocker shoes and have removable inserts for orthotics.
The downside... not waterproof.
