@review The developers who packaged Librecast for #SummerOfNix a few years ago have kindly packaged lcagent as well. @NGIZero as a consortium aim to not only fund software, but to help new projects to build community.

lcrq 0.2.1 has now been packaged for #NixOS unstable.

The effort that @review and @nixos_org enabled due to #SummerOfNix 2023 continues.

The investment from the EU in that initial push for Nix packaging as part of @EC_NGI is still good value.

We need more investment in the ecosystem.

As one of the projects that benefited from the #SummerOfNix last year, we can say that packaging a #FOSS project for a distribution you love is an immense public good. It helps the distribution of projects and helps to strengthen that distribution as well.

Here’s the second progress update for Summer of Nix 2023. The three mobs incorporated themselves as algae, moss, and fungus, and are now spreading their spores all over the new NGIpkgs monorepo as well as Nixpkgs. We've added Darwin support :

Darwin support (macOS/aarch64)
define byteorder macros for macOS/Darwin

We've also done some minor bug fixes!

#SummerOfNix are packaging @librecast and we have packages for the librecast, lcrq and lcsync with more to follow!

If there is anyone in the community who is interested in learning more about #NixOS and packaging, the SummerOfNix folks will show you how to become a #Nix maintainer. It's a small task - updating packages a few times a year, but an important one. It's a way to get involved in the #FOSS community and help support #librecast and NixOS.

This is how #FOSS happens.

As a small project we are always excited when we end up in a new distribution or even a new system!

We know we have a supportive community on here. So if you want to contribute and you aren't sure how to, you can always ask us on IRC or message us here.

With the excellent news that we were packaged for @nixos_org we want to ensure that it's maintained.

If you are interested in #multicast, #NixOS and #librecast we need #volunteers to maintain those packages.

One of the cool initiatives that NLNet ( @NGIZero) does in conjunction with @EC_NGI and @nixos_org is the Summer of Nix, from July until October 2023.
